Ricardo Senatus took a negotiated plea of 19 years to life for killing a 20-year-old bodega worker in 2021.
Over a dozen of Fadhl Moosa’s loved ones came together at Kings County Criminal Court in Downtown Brooklyn to see Senatus receive his sentencing.
The shooting took place at the bodega on Flatbush Avenue.
Police say it was an attempted robbery that turned deadly. They say Moosa was fatally shot, and Senatus, a New Jersey native, took off with cash.
“I’m really sorry,” said Senatus to Moosa’s family in the courtroom. “I knew him and I can’t bring him back… I wasn’t in the right state of mind.”
A representative of the Yemeni American Merchant’s Association says since this incident, they’ve established a program to help teach bodega workers how to deescalate conflict and help save lives.
The Moosa family told News 12 they feel a sense of closure.
