A fire at an apartment building in Crown Heights Tuesday left neighbors in shock.
"It's kind of crazy, first time seeing a fire so close," said Cyril Thomas. "And it being my neighbor, it's even kind of crazier."
The FDNY responded to the scene after getting calls about the fire just after 1 p.m. Firefighters confirmed it began on the third floor and quickly spread to the fourth. One neighbor said he gave a fire extinguisher to the person who lives in the apartment where it started, but the flames were too much.
"And by the time he went back upstairs, fire was coming over the window," he said.
Firefighters quickly managed to get the fire under control. Officials are working to figure out how it started. The Red Cross is also helping impacted neighbors.
