A new court ruling is allowing the Adams administration to move forward with removing the protected bike lane along Bedford Avenue — a decision welcomed by many parents in Williamsburg.
They say the lane has caused several crashes this year, including multiple incidents where children were hit by passing bikes and scooters.
Advocates for the Bike lane are pushing back. Transportation Alternatives argues that removing the lane will force cyclists back into traffic — increasing the risk of serious injuries or fatalities.
According to the Department of Transportation, injuries on the bike path are down more than 12% since the safety project was implemented, and pedestrian injuries are down nearly 40% in the same timeframe.
Those statistics do not include incidents in Williamsburg, where some families say the danger remains high.
