Your block this morning. Diving into all the delicious gems that make little Caribbean home New 12 ju. Just so she gets this lucky assignment. She said all bakery, it's a staple there and it's been in the neighborhood since the sixties. Ju So what pastry are you previewing for us now? Well, guys, we already did the current rolls. Now, we're on to the hard D, hard D bread, right? And you said this is your grandparents staple. This is the first thing they sold here at the bakery. Give us a little back story. Yes. We actually started out of a station wagon in 1958 and this was the first item we sold that Brooklyn cricket games and soccer games. And then eventually in 61 we open to our first store front. So we have the hard D bread which will come down and it will get rolled by the machine. Here, it will go through the molding process and then I'll finish it off by hand and there's a lot to the finishing touches. This isn't the only one. No. So it goes from the mixer to the divider to the rounder to the overhead proof box and then the bread molder. Well, I'll roll it by hand to finish it off and give you one word to describe when you take a bite of this dough. How do you feel? It's definitely my favorite bread. Sometimes I have it just by itself. Some people judge me. I can maybe have a single one by. No, no judging. Well, guys, as you see, we've been here all morning on your block and next up, thank you Christian for all of these sweets. We're heading over to lift cafe. I hear we got a latte brewing. Today we're taking you to the heart of Flatbush A K A little Caribbean getting hungry. 12 Julia Joseph has been at a bakery making us all hungry. A staple on No Avenue all morning long. And Julia, what's cooking for us this morning? Well, guys, what's cooking? We got the current rolls here. I'm back for round two with Christian who is the grandson of the owner here at Allen's. Christian's gonna walk us through these incredible pastries. Show us how it's done Christian. So we're gonna get the machine going. Now first we have the pastry that's gonna go the calibrator. It'll get cut, sprayed with some water. So it'll have the sugar and the spices drop, followed by the currants and then I will roll it out. So I'm actually gonna stop it here for a moment just because we're on and I will just begin the rolling process. And you see all those currants and cinnamon. We got some sugar flour and it's the best item to have like all day long breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert. Just nonstop current rolls. And the best way these are served up is what? Hot, fresh out of the oven? I love it. Fresh out of the oven. That's my favorite way. But a lot of people enjoy it cold as well. Some people have it with ice cream, which is what my grandpa does. So, let's head back over here and we're gonna give our viewers a little taste of these incredible current rolls. You wanna break those out for us? So, and as you were saying before, just give me a little back story how your grandparents came up with this recipe. It was between my grandpa, Alan and Gloria and my grandpa's brother, they developed the recipe together. Um And it's been our number one product ever since. Finally getting my coffee. Thanks guys. Thanks to German and his mom, Donna here, the owner of this cafe. So tell me about the inspiration. Why do you want to open a cafe on? No, I want to open up a caf because the neighborhood deserve do work and feel at home. And you said there's really something about community here, right? For sure. We don't serve coffee. That's right. But I do want some coffee right now. So walk me through what we're making here today right now. You told me you like lavender. I do. I'm gonna spice it up a bit and make you a lavender pistachio ice latte. All right. All right. And it's I it's ice for sure. For the summer you got the lips logo going there. Yeah. So kind of walk us through. What are the steps to making a latte? The first thing first is we're gonna put the pumps of syrup. So this is the pistachio and this is the lavender. You say you don't like it too sweet. So I'm not too sweet. Thank you. Here you go. As long as we got the lavender in there, we're OK. And then the most important part, we're gonna put the espresso in there. So you get your out of that and then we're gonna finish it off with the milk. There we go guys, the lavender pistachio latte and of course you need a lid so you don't spill this on there. All right, shake it up a little bit. Your coffee here. Definitely. This is your thank you. This is mine to get a straw in. There we go like this and I got my coffee now, so I'm all set for the rest of the morning. Gonna be a good day. Yes.

Julia Joseph joins us now from a shop that's preparing for the West Indian American Day parade. That's right around the corner. Julia. It is. And that's why I'm here with Shelley at her shop. I am Caribbean and we are in the Caribbean. So tell us Shelly about this beautiful shop you have. Yes. So this space services are organization's headquarters and it's affection affectionately known as Duty Free. So we carry a lot of um local makers, artisans as well as some curated goods from back home. But now that it's carnival season, it's a mass camp. So you can actually come in and register to jump up and play mass with us and we're gonna do that right now over here with Kenya, Kenya. What do we have going on over here? A lot of stuff? So we have different looks for carnival season. So we have Captain Stush Busha Hoy Bush crew and sail masters. So each look comes with different accessories that are sustainable. You can reuse these anywhere you want, especially if you want to go out to the pool, we have our lovely bathing suits and we have these two tables here that will act as our mass camp where people can bedazzle Rhinestone, do whatever they want to make it unique to them.
